Nepali CSOs Reflect On VNR 2020 Process

Nepal SDGs Forum held a VNR 2020 Reflection and SDGs Action Week Planning Meeting on 27 July 2020. The meeting reviewed and reflected on the efforts  of the Government of Nepal, Nepali CSOs and development partners on VNR 2020 process, discussed follow up actions and brainstormed for SDGs Action Week to be observed in September. NFN President chaired and moderated the meeting.

 

Hon. Member of National Planning Commission Mr Min Bahadur Shahi was the chief guest of the meeting which was attended by CSO networks, alliances, development partners, and development and human rights activists. Representatives of international civil society networks also participated in the meeting. GCAP Asia Coordinator Mr Pradeep Baisakh and Asia Development Alliance (ADA) Coordinator Ms Jyotsna Mohan Singh joined the meeting and appreciated the collaborative actions of the CSOs and the Government of Nepal. 

 

The meeting participants expressed that this year's VNR process was unprecedented in terms of participatory and coordinated process among the CSOs as well as between the civil society or CSOs and the Government of Nepal.

 

Earlier, Nepali CSOs had collaboratively produced the civil society report or VNR 2020 report and submitted to National Planning Commission for considering and incorporating in the Government's VNR 2020 report and presentation to UN HLPF.

 

Notably, Nepal SDGs Forum, coordinated by NGO Federation of Nepal, organized, co-organized or presented in more than four side-events in the UN High Level Political Forum held in July 2020. Official delegate team of the Government of Nepal in VNR 2020 included the participation of Nepali civil society--as represented by President of NGO Federation of Nepal Mr Jit Ram Lama and President of Dalit NGO Federation Mr Bhakta Bishwakarma. 

 

The participants have reiterated the coordinated efforts in localization of SDGs, realizing the principle of 'leave no one behind' for which data is essential, and learning from the lessons. Nepal SDGs Forum will move on with the planned action for the next series of events.
